  • Music

At Black Combe Junior School, we believe that every day, every opportunity, every experience and every child counts. Through music, we aim to inspire children, develop their confidence and creativity, and provide opportunities for every pupil to experience the enjoyment and sense of achievement that music can bring.

Using the Kapow Primary Music Scheme, we provide a broad, progressive and inclusive curriculum that develops children's skills in listening, performing, composing and evaluating. We want pupils to develop a love of music, gain confidence in expressing themselves through music and appreciate the richness and diversity of musical traditions from around the world.

Music is an important part of our vision to nurture children as individuals, celebrate their differences and prepare them for the next stage of their education and future life. We encourage pupils to be curious, creative and reflective, whilst developing the confidence to perform, share ideas and take pride in their achievements. Through a range of musical experiences, children learn to challenge themselves, build resilience and discover the value of practice, perseverance and teamwork.

Our Music curriculum supports the core values that underpin life at Black Combe Junior School:

    • Responsibility by encouraging pupils to take ownership of their learning and contribute positively to group performances and activities.
    • Cooperation through singing, performing and composing together, where everyone has a role to play.
    • Honesty by reflecting thoughtfully on their own work and recognising both successes and areas for improvement.
    • Respect by valuing the ideas, talents and contributions of others and developing an appreciation of music from different cultures and traditions.
    • Kindness through supporting, encouraging and celebrating one another as musicians and learners.

Music also helps our children develop a sense of belonging within their local, national and global communities. Through exploring a wide range of musical styles and cultures, pupils gain a greater understanding of the world around them and the important role that music plays in bringing people together.

At Black Combe Junior School, we want every child to leave with a love of music, the confidence to participate and perform, and an understanding of how music can enrich their lives. By fostering creativity, curiosity and self-expression, we aim to inspire lifelong engagement with music and help our pupils grow, achieve, aspire and inspire.
