Curriculum Intentions

At Black Combe Junior School, we believe that every day, every opportunity, every experience and every child counts. Through our Religion and Worldviews curriculum, we encourage children to explore, question and develop an understanding of the beliefs, values and experiences that shape the lives of people around the world.

Using the Kapow Religion and Worldviews curriculum to deliver the Cumbria Locally Agreed Syllabus, we provide a broad, progressive and inclusive curriculum that helps children develop curiosity, understanding and respect. Through learning about a range of religions and non-religious worldviews, pupils gain a deeper understanding of themselves, others and the diverse world in which they live.

We believe that Religion and Worldviews plays an important role in helping children grow into thoughtful, compassionate and open-minded individuals. Through discussion, enquiry and reflection, pupils are encouraged to ask meaningful questions, explore different viewpoints and think carefully about their own ideas and values. They learn that there are many ways of understanding the world and that every person's beliefs and experiences deserve respect.

Our curriculum supports children in developing the confidence to express their views, listen to others and engage in respectful conversations about important issues. By exploring beliefs, traditions and ways of life from local, national and global communities, pupils learn about the similarities and differences that make our society rich and diverse.

Religion and Worldviews strongly reflects the values that underpin life at Black Combe Junior School. It provides meaningful opportunities for pupils to develop and demonstrate:

As part of our vision to help children grow, achieve, aspire and inspire, we encourage pupils to become curious lifelong learners who are confident in asking questions and open to new ideas. Through exploring life's 'big questions', children learn to think deeply, challenge assumptions and appreciate the diverse experiences of people in their communities and beyond.

At Black Combe Junior School, we want every child to leave with the knowledge, understanding and confidence to engage positively with the world around them. By fostering curiosity, reflection, empathy and respect, we aim to help our pupils become thoughtful citizens who value diversity, embrace difference and contribute positively to their local, national and global communities.
