Autumn 1 Timetable

What is happening in Autumn 1...

This half term, our focus in topic will be history. We will be looking in detail at the Space Race and whether this was one of the most significant events during the twentieth century. We will develop a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of the Space Race as a significant aspect of history beyond 1066. We will understand how and why key events occurred, identify their significance and use historical evidence to construct informed responses about the impact the Space Race has had on the world.

As scientists, we will learn all about Earth and Space. We will describe the movement of the Erath, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the Solar System and the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth. We will be able to describe the Sun, Earth and Moon as approximate spherical bodies and understand the planets which make up our Solar System. We will use the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.

As artists, we will create an art installation using recyclable materials with a space theme. We will study the work of four contemporary artists from different parts of the world, who all work with plastic waste in different ways.

As computing experts, we will recognise IT systems in the world and how some can enable searching on the internet.

In RE, we will ask the questions, ‘What do people think God?’ and ‘Why doesn’t Christianity always look the same?’ We will explore the spread of Christian beliefs worldwide and look at hoe geography and history influence Christian practices.

Our focus as athletes this half term is stamina and dance. We will practice and perform different line dances, collecting ideas in order to create a line dance as a group.

As Spanish speakers, we will develop the knowledge and skills to present both orally and in written form about the pets they have and/or do not have at home.

In PSHE, as part of My Happy Mind, during our ‘Meet Your Brain’ module we will understand how our brains work and how to ensure we look after it so that we can manage our emotions and be at our best.

As musicians and performers, our focus will be on experimenting with pitch, dynamics and harmony, using simple chords to add depth and atmosphere to our performances.
