Curriculum Intentions

At Black Combe Junior School, we believe that every day, every opportunity, every experience and every child counts. Through our Religious Education (RE) and Worldviews curriculum, we nurture children as individuals, celebrate their differences and prepare them for the next stage of their education and future life. Using the Kapow Religious Education and Worldviews Curriculum to deliver the Cumbria Locally Agreed Syllabus, we provide pupils with rich opportunities to explore different religions, beliefs and worldviews, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, others and the world around them.

We believe that high-quality Religious Education makes an important contribution to children's personal, social and academic development. It challenges pupils to ask questions, think critically, discuss respectfully and consider a range of viewpoints. Through their learning, children develop an understanding of the role that religion and belief play in local, national and global communities, enabling them to engage thoughtfully with the diverse society in which they live.

RE and Worldviews strongly reflect the ethos of Black Combe Junior School, where we aim to ensure that all children are happy, healthy and able to grow, achieve, aspire and inspire within a safe, caring atmosphere of support and co-operation. The subject encourages pupils to become confident, independent and self-motivated learners who can reflect on their own beliefs and values while showing understanding and respect for those of others.

Our curriculum provides meaningful opportunities for children to develop and demonstrate our core values of responsibility, co-operation, honesty, respect and kindness. Through enquiry, discussion and reflection, pupils learn to take responsibility for their actions and learning, work co-operatively with others, express their thoughts honestly, respect different beliefs and perspectives, and show kindness and empathy towards those around them.

As part of our vision, we encourage children to belong and contribute positively to their local, national and global communities. Our RE and Worldviews curriculum supports this by taking pupils on a journey of discovery, encouraging them to question, challenge their thinking and develop a curiosity about the beliefs and experiences of others. In doing so, we empower them to become lifelong learners who are equipped with the knowledge, understanding and values needed to make informed choices and play an active role in building strong, inclusive communities for the future.
