Welcome to Class Two!
As you will know, the government has ordered school closures, for the vast majority of children, for the foreseeable future. During this time, it is important they still have the opportunity to maintain their learning and enjoy many of the subjects and topics the curriculum has to offer. Therefore, we have put together a ‘virtual’ school from which children will be set challenges and activities. The school website and Class Dojo will provide the platform for us to set these tasks; for you and your child to submit their learning outcomes and for both adults and children to feedback on progress. The structure of the learning is as follows:
Teachers will set daily English, Maths and Science challenges, for their own classes, from BBC Bitesize and Sumdog. Links to the websites your child will need will be provided on the class webpages/Class Dojo.
Each week, your class teacher will set your children a number of tasks based around a theme or topic. Your child must complete at least five of these tasks, but may complete more, or all of them. Each task will earn your child Class Dojo points, so the more they complete, the more points they will earn.
Support and Feedback:
We will be on hand to provide virtual support and feedback to you and your children via Class Dojo.
Throughout these tasks, children will be asked to submit work in the way of a photograph, text or video (depending on the task).
Children should submit their work to their Portfolios on Class Dojo. The work for the daily tasks should be submitted to the ‘Daily Tasks’ activity and the theme/topic work should be submitted to whichever theme or topic is set for that week, for instance, week one’s topic is Van Gogh’s Sunflowers so the activity will be named ‘Sunflowers Topic’.
We always love to celebrate children’s achievements so, each Friday, we will be holding a virtual celebration assembly. This will showcase all of the great learning and outcomes from the week!

This week, children in Class Two were asked to choose the topic. The most popular choice was for a topic on elephants.
Tusk One: Get something to take notes with and be ready to hit the pause button while you scribble down some facts! Watch the clip below and see if you can find out some Asian elephant facts. 10 points.

Planes, trains and automobiles (cars) are just three ways that we can travel from one place to another. Others include boats, bicycles, skateboards and helicopters. This week our topic is all about vehicles and we will be learning all about different vehicles and their uses.

Tasks 3-7. These two links will give you enough information for you to design and make FIVE Big Cat Fact Sheets, one for each day of the week. Use headings, text boxes, ‘did you know?’ boxes and drawings or pictures you have printed / cut and pasted etc. You can also use the internet for your own research if you are allowed. (10 Dojos Each)
Task 8. Design a zoo enclosure for a Big Cat of your choice. Think about what you have learnt about your Big Cat from the links above, and try to cater for its needs in your design. (10 Dojos)
Task 9. Design and make a poster, advertising the opening of your new Big Cat enclosure at the zoo. Try to remember the key features of a poster, and use them. (10 Dojos)

Task 11. Now you’re an expert at tiger cubs, draw another, but make it camouflaged to blend in with the environment in your picture. You could keep it natural, or try being a bit wild and give it some really different colours! (10 Dojos)

Task 13. Put your cute little cub drawings to work, and make them part of an illustrated story. You can choose any title. If you’re stuck try: “The day the cubs got out.” Remember that a story should have a start, middle and end. (10 Dojos)

Week Eight's Topic: Heroes
A hero is a person who, in the opinion of other people, has amazing abilities, incredible personal qualities, has accomplished special achievements and is regarded as a role model to be looked up to. A hero can be anyone who fits this description, either now or in the past, real or fictional and can include sporting personalities, authors, doctors and nurses, teachers, people you are related to, superheroes and so on. The list goes on and on.
Task 2: Who is your hero? Everyone has a hero; someone they look up to. Your hero might be a sportsperson, a Youtuber, a superhero or someone else. Create a factsheet about your hero. Include illustrations, did you know… boxes, headings, sub-headings, captions and paragraphs. Try to make it as jam-packed and interesting as you can. (15 Class Dojo Points)
Task 3: Invent your own superhero. Draw a picture of your superhero and explain who they are, where they live and what they do. You might include their secret identity and what they do for a job when they are not being a superhero. You could also include a drawing and explanation of their gadgets, vehicles and base. (15 Class Dojo points).
Task 4: Invent your own villain. Draw a picture of your villain and explain who they are, where they live and what they do. You might include their secret identity and what they do for a job when they are not being a villain. You could also include a drawing and explanation of their gadgets, vehicles and base. (15 Class Dojo points).
Task 5: Write story about your superhero and villain. Your story should include some kind of disaster created by the villain and how the superhero saves the day. Try to include your superhero’s and villain’s powers, gadgets, vehicles and bases. (20 Class Dojo Points).
Task 6: Create a comic from your story. Remember that a comic doesn’t have a lot of words. Everything you have written in your story needs to be put into the drawings. The only words there should be in your comic are the words spoken by the characters. (20 Dojo points).
Task 7: Interview an adult in your house about their childhood hero. Ask them these questions (and any others you can think of) (10 Dojo points).
Task 8: Write up your interview. Include a title, an opening paragraph explaining what you are doing and who you are interviewing and the questions you have asked followed by the answers you were given. You could even draw a picture of the person you have interviewed or their hero. (15 Dojo points).
Task 9: Create some crafts based on heroes and superheroes. There are some good ideas on the link below.
Task 10: Heroes have special skills. Learn a special skill of your own. Follow the link below to learn how to juggle. Practise throughout the week and post a video at the end of the week on how well you are getting on. (Dojo points awarded depends on how well you learn to juggle).
Task 11: Follow the link below to learn about the NHS. Draw a picture of a doctor and a nurse. Write 5 facts about the NHS around the picture. (10 Dojo points).
Task 12: Follow the link below to learn about the story of The Trojan Horse. Once you have read the story answer the following questions. (10 Dojo points)
Task One. Look at some pictures on the link below about the collapse of the Old Sea Wall. Write a newspaper report about the discovery of the collapsed wall; illustrate it with a picture you have drawn. Think about who might have discovered the collapse and when. What did they do and who did they tell? You can be inventive and make up some ‘facts’, but remember it’s a newspaper report, NOT a story.
Task Two & Three. Use the link below to take a look at some miners in the olden days. Write a description of what you can see in the picture. Include at least ten ideas. Try to focus on whether you think it was safe for them. What dangers can you spot in the picture? 10 points.
Make a portrait drawing of one of the men. 10 points.
Task Seven. Choose a favourite meal, or one your parent/carer is going to make. Write a recipe and take some photographs of having a go at making it (with adult help). Add some notes about what went well and what you would do differently next time. 15 points.
Task Eight. Read about Shipping at Millom in the past on the link below. Write five facts that you have discovered. 5 points.
Task Nine. Design your own Shipping Flag, like the one you have seen in the link above, or do a bit of research on Google for ‘Shipping company house flags’ to see what they’re like and get some ideas. 10 points.
Task Ten. Have a look at the street map of Millom on the link below. Have a play about, you can bring up detail by zooming in and move the map for example. Have a go at drawing a map of the way you get to school or visit someone, or a favourite family walk. Try to draw the map as a bird’s eye view, and label the streets. You should draw some pictures of things you see around the edge of the map. If you have adult help, you might take some pictures of the things you see too. 15 points.
Week Six's Topic: Dinosaurs
This week’s topic is all about Dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were the main animals on Earth for more than 150 million years. They were lizard like reptiles. Some of them were the largest and scariest creatures that ever walked on land. The word dinosaur comes from Greek words meaning “terrible lizard.” The last dinosaurs became extinct, or died out, about 65.5 million years ago.
Task 2: What would you have been like as a dinosaur? Invent a new dinosaur based on yourself; write about what it would eat, where it would live, etc. and draw an awesome picture to go with it. Don’t forget to give it a name. (15 Dojo points)
Task 3: Follow the link to choose from some edible dinosaur treats. Try to make one or more of the treats with a grown-up. Upload a photo of the treats to Class Dojo and tell us how it tasted. (15 Dojo Points)
Task 4: Follow the link below to choose from the dinosaur craft ideas. Try to make one or more of the craft ideas. Upload a photo of the completed craft to Class Dojo. (10 Dojo points)
Task 5: During the time of the dinosaurs there was some pretty extreme weather. Some scientists believe that it was due to extreme changes in the weather, brought on by the impact of an asteroid, that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. We have some pretty extreme weather on Earth to this day. Follow the link below to learn all about extreme weather. Choose an extreme weather from the page and create an information page about it Try to include headings, sub-headings, paragraphs, pictures and captions. (15 Dojo Points)
Task 6: On 24th May Muslims celebrate Eid, a Muslim holiday which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. Follow the link below to watch the video about Eid. Draw a picture of Sara and write six facts about her around the picture. For 5 extra Dojo points you could also draw a picture of yourself and write six facts about yourself around your picture. (10 or 15 Dojo points)
Task 7: Follow the link below and watch the video about mosques, a place where Muslims go to pray, study, and learn how to be a good human being from the iman. In Islam it is considered disrespectful to make pictures of God or the prophets, so mosques are decorated with patterns, calligraphy and stained glass. Look at the examples of Islamic art below and try to create some of your own. Try to use geometric shapes and bold colours. (15 Dojo points)
Task 8: Follow the link below to the British Red Cross website. Read why it is important to learn first aid skills and complete the interactive quiz on the page. Upload the injured person you draw onto Class Dojo. (10 Dojo point)
Task 9: Follow the link above to the British Red Cross website. At the bottom of the first aid skills page there are eight first aid skills you can learn, including asthma attack, bleeding, broken bone, etc. Choose one of the eight skills to learn about and then write up what you have learnt. Include a picture for 5 extra Dojo points. (10 or 15 Dojo points)
Task 10: Quentin Blake is responsible for illustrating most of the Roald Dahl books, as well as David Walliams’ books and his own books. Follow the link below to learn how to draw one of Roald Dahl’s most famous characters ‘Willy Wonka’. Have a go yourself and earn an extra 5 Dojo points for colouring your picture carefully. (10 or 15 Dojo points)
We are lucky in the Lake District to be visited by magnificent birds of prey called ospreys, and they are the focus of this week’s topic work.
Task 1: Spend a minute or two watching the osprey nest at Foulshaw Moss, near Kendal. Explain in five sentences, or more, what you can see at the nest. For example, is there one bird or two? Can you see any eggs, or chicks? What are the birds doing? What time of day was it? What is the weather like? (10 Dojo points).

Task 3: There are quite a few web pages showing you how to draw an osprey. You can have a look and see which one suits you best, if you are allowed by your parent/carer; or you can just follow the link below. Have a go at drawing an osprey. Try to use the correct colours if you have them, ordinary pencil, pencil crayon, felt tips or painted: it doesn’t matter. (10 Dojo points).
Task 4: Watch the video clip below of an osprey catching a fish. Write a voice-over commentary as if you were the wildlife show presenter, what would they say to go with this video? (20 Dojo points).
Task 5: Read the information at the link below all about how ospreys are designed and adapted to catch their food. Write five facts about how ospreys are adapted for catching fish. You could add some pictures to go with your facts. (15 Dojo points).
Task 6: Wherever you live you can see birds. You just have to look. Get a notebook and pencil, find somewhere comfortable and safe, sit and look. Be quiet and if you are outside be still as you can. Look up and all around, gradually you will see the birds. If you know their names write a list, if you do not know what they are write or sketch some notes which can help you to look them up later. How many different types of birds can you see? Make a list and do some drawings of birds you see around your house, yard, street, garden or on a walk with your parent/carer (10 Dojo points).
Task 7: Search for a map of the world on the internet and print it out. If you are unable to print, try drawing one and colouring in the main countries. Draw an arrow on your map from Gambia in West Africa, where many ospreys come from, to the Lake District of the UK. (15 Dojo points).

“May the force be with you.” is one of the most well-known movie quotes from the Star Wars series.
The Star Wars films follow the adventures of characters “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” in which a mystical power known as “The Force” is used for good by the Jedi and evil by the Sith. Members of both the light and the dark side also use lightsabers, a blade of energy that can cut through virtually anything.
Task 1: Design a spaceship that could go into the next Star Wars film. Draw it carefully, labelling the different parts. Then explain in writing what the spaceship is used for. (10 Dojo points)

Task 6: Pretend you are a spaceship pilot who has crash landed on a distant planet. Use descriptive writing to explain what it is like to spend a day on the planet. Explain what you saw, heard, felt, smelled and even tasted. (10 Dojo points)
Task 7: Although the first Star Wars film was released in 1977, films have been around a lot longer. Watch this short video that explains how film was invented and then draw a scene from your favourite film and explain in writing why it is your favourite. (10 Dojo points)

Task 10: To celebrate VE Day why not try baking a traditional British cake, such as a Victoria sponge cake, an iced fairy cake or scones. Ask an adult to help you and upload any photos of you making them, the finished product and let me know how they tasted.
This painting is called, ‘Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’ and it was painted in 1884 by Georges Seurat who developed this painting technique which he called pointillism. It involves using small, painted dots to create areas of colour that together form a pattern or picture.

Task 7: Georges Seurat was born during the Victorian Era. Research the Victorian Era and create a non-fiction text about it. Try to include headings, sub-headings, paragraphs, pictures and captions (15 Class Dojo Points)
Task 8: During the Victorian Era children were sent to work in some very dangerous situations. Watch this video about children working in coal mines and try explain in writing what it would be like to work in a mine. You could include what types of jobs they did, how they would feel about it and what kinds of things they would see and hear. (15 Dojo points)
Task 9: Watch this video all about duration and tempo in music. Create a piece of music using anything as an instrument (your body, pots and pans, the garden fence). The piece of music needs to have a fast part and a slow part. Video yourself playing it and upload it to your portfolio (15 Dojo points)
Task 10: During this time, it is more important than ever to exercise. It keeps our bodies fit and helps with our mental health too. Take a photo of yourself doing some kind of exercise. This could be a walk, bike ride, working in the garden, bouncing on the trampoline, etc. (10 Dojo points)
Task 11: Watch this video and learn how to say different types of food in French. Then, draw a picture of one of the foods mentioned in the video and label it in English and French. (10 Dojo points)
This week there are three very important events taking place. On Wednesday 22nd April it is Earth Day and on Thursday 23rd of April it is St George’s Day and the anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
According to legend St George tamed and killed a dragon and rescued a princess.
William Shakespeare is one of England’s most famous writers who wrote plays that are still very famous today.

Task 9: This Earth Day is unlike any other because of the coronavirus. Let’s pretend we are going to bury a time capsule in our school grounds to be dug up in 100 years. Write a page explaining what you have done this week that is different because of the coronavirus. Include activities you have done, what you have missed out on (such as going shopping or going to school) and how you feel about it. You could also draw a picture of something you have done. ‘Sunflowers’ by Vincent Van Gogh
This painting by Vincent Van Gogh hangs in The National Gallery in London and is one of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous pieces of artwork. This painting of sunflowers is one of five, created to decorate the artists house in preparation for a visit from his friend.
