Awards

At Black Combe Junior School, the children are very proud of their achievements. So we thought we would dedicate this special page to them. In addition to this, as a school, we are constantly looking to improve and do the best for our pupils, so you will also find any school awards that we have achieved or are working towards.

Winners 2016

of the interschool rocket car project!

Schools were challenged to design, build and test a rocket car that would use air as the form of propulsion. The children were supplied with specific materials that they were limited to. Each team was judged against each of the following elements:

  • Distance travelled
  • Straightest line travelled
  • Written report
  • Presentation
  • The model
  • The display
  • Teamwork
  • Enthusiasm

The winning team from each school attended the 'Little Big Bang' event at Millom Comprehensive School, to showcase their rocket car and test them against competing schools.

Our children worked exceptionally hard researching friction, aerodynamics and materials and developed prototypes to test. They developed technical drawings for their final designs and made their cars to a very high standard. In fact, the winning car travelled so far, they had to open the hall doors for it to continue into the corridor!

Amazingly, the winning prize is for our school logo to be printed on the tail fin of the Bloodhound, which is attempting to break the land speed world record in South Africa next year! A massive well done to all the Year 6 children for such fantastic work! Below are just a few photographs of the children at work.
